A while ago I conducted a workshop for social worker types. I asked if they considered themselves leaders and none said they did. Then I asked: If you define leadership as “someone who enables others to succeed” would you be leaders then? All of them said they would.
I like the definition I created, although I don’t know if others in the field would agree. In fact, liking my own definition would be known as “cellar palette” at my house (after the idea that winemakers tend to think of their own wines as superior). But someone has to have the best wine, and the best definition, why not me?
And I like the idea of everyone being able to be a leader. Pick up someone who is down. Encourage someone who is working on a difficult task. Say something nice to someone every time you have the chance. Be the kind of leader the world needs you to be.
