I like the phrase, “turn of phrase.” During the last two or three passes when writing a book, I do my best to include a few good turns of phrase that readers might remember and perhaps even share. A few nights ago, one came to me that I can’t include into a book, but I want to share anyway.
Since the election of Donald Trump to the most important position in the world (in my view), the power of words to mislead and to cause division has come into great focus. What I have recognized more than before is name calling; which I believe is a standard behavior in elementary school, probably most common in grades four and five. This is the turn of phrase that occurred to me.
“Name calling is part of growing up, but not part of being a grownup.”
A nice turn of phrase, don’t you think?
